Shari Nye’s practice is rooted in a sustained engagement with the natural environment. Encounters with diverse landscapes, often through field trips and direct observation, provide the foundation for her work.
These experiences inform both subject matter and approach, allowing her to respond to the specificity of place.
Working predominantly in oil and abstraction, she is drawn to the medium’s capacity for depth, nuance, and slow layering. Through painting, she aims to convey not only her interpretation and energy of the natural world but also, the sense of immersion and reverence it inspires. Her work reflects an ongoing dialogue between observation, memory, and material, driven by a respect for nature and the act of painting itself.
